Research Area

The project aims to study membraneless organelles, effectively biological liquid droplets, as regions of organic solvent suspended inside cells. The research focuses on the fundamental principles of physical chemistry applied to cellular function.

Location

Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery, New Biochemistry Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in Biophysics, Chemistry, or a related area, or be close to completion prior to taking up the appointment.
  • Required experience in NMR, familiarity with intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs), and expertise in phase separation studies.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct research on membraneless organelles.
  • Use NMR and other biophysical techniques to study phase separation.
  • Manage their own academic research and administrative activities, including small-scale project management and coordination of multiple tasks.
  • Receive training in NMR, programming (Python), and wet lab techniques for protein handling and biophysical assays.

How to Apply

  • Applications must be made online.
  • Upload a supporting statement (less than 5 pages) explaining how you meet each selection criterion stated in the job description.
  • Do not submit certificates, references, or research papers at this stage.

Last Date for Apply

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on 4 June 2025 (UK time). Interviews will be conducted as soon as possible thereafter.

Note: The University of Oxford and the Department of Chemistry encourage applications from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts at Oxford.
