Postdoctoral Research Associate in Dwyer Lab: The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia is seeking one or two Postdoctoral Research Associates to join the Dwyer Lab. The lab focuses on understanding the genes and mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal brain development, with current projects investigating new mouse mutants with novel brain development phenotypes and the impact of cytokinesis regulation in neural stem cells. The successful candidate(s) will manage their own projects, collaborate with lab members and collaborators, present their work, and contribute to grant applications and publications.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Doctoral degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Genetics, or a related field required by the start date of the appointment.
  • First author publication(s).
  • Experience in independent laboratory experiments, including experimental design, data analysis, and management.
  • Interest and confidence in developing new techniques for hypothesis testing.
  • High motivation and intellectual and technical capacity to drive a research project.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrated by a strong publication record and presentations at conferences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research on genes and mechanisms underlying brain development.
  • Designing and executing laboratory experiments using various techniques, including genetics, genomics, cell and tissue culture, microscopy, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
  • Managing independent research projects, including data analysis, figure preparation, and data management.
  • Collaborating with lab members and external collaborators.
  • Presenting research findings at lab meetings and conferences.
  • Contributing to grant applications and manuscript preparation.
  • Learning new techniques as required.
  • Mentoring and teaching students.
