Eligibility & Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • Education: Hold (or expect to hold shortly) a PhD in Immunology or another relevant discipline in Biomedical Sciences, alongside a BSc (Hons) in a relevant biological science.
  • Knowledge: Extensive and up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge in Immunology, particularly Mucosal Immunology or related areas (e.g., matrix/fibroblast biology).
  • Technical Skills: Proven competence in core immunological laboratory techniques, such as:
    • Multiparameter Flow Cytometry
    • Primary tissue processing & cell isolation
    • ELISA and RT-PCR
    • Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing
  • In Vivo Experience: Practical experience handling transgenic animal models and/or in vivo disease models and interventions.
  • Right to Work: Must already possess the right to work in the UK (the position is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC) or equivalent high-dimensional imaging technologies and spatial transcriptomics.
  • Interdisciplinary research experience connecting immunology with extracellular matrix or stromal/fibroblast biology.
  • Holding a current UK Home Office Personal License (PIL) or equivalent licensing/experience outside the UK.

Scholarship / Position Description

The appointed researcher will join the dynamic Hepworth Lab within the Division of Immunology, Immunity to Infection, and Respiratory Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualization & Design: Independently formulate hypotheses, design experimental setups, and analyze datasets.
  • Experimental Execution: Perform advanced in vivo and in vitro assays, flow cytometry, gene expression profiling, single-cell analysis, and imaging.
  • Dissemination: Prepare manuscripts for publication in high-impact international journals and present research findings at scientific conferences.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide daily supervision and guidance to PhD/MSc students and junior laboratory members.
