Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Oxford, UK

Postdoctoral Research Assistant Position in University of Oxford, UK

Summary: Join our interdisciplinary research team at the University of Oxford’s Department of Biology to explore the fascinating field of plant-pathogen interactions and contribute to the development of new strategies for crop protection.

Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Research Area: Plant-Pathogen Interactions
Location: Department of Biology, South Parks Rd, Oxford, OX1 3RB

Eligibility/Qualification: We are seeking an enthusiastic new colleague with extensive experience in molecular cloning, protein expression, and purification, who is eager to collaborate in an interdisciplinary research team. A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required.

Job Description:
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will be part of an ERC-funded project aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms underpinning extracellular manipulation of the host during infection. The project involves using chemical proteomics to discover secreted plant proteins manipulated by Pseudomonas syringae and using artificial intelligence to predict pathogen proteins responsible for this manipulation. You will verify predicted protein-protein interactions using co-immunoprecipitation, establish enzymatic assays and activity-based labeling to demonstrate the effect of target manipulation, and use reverse genetics to deplete components from both plant and pathogen to demonstrate their importance in pathogen virulence and plant immunity.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit their application letter, a CV, a list addressing the job criteria, and names of two academic references. Applicants who have experienced significant disruption to their work or research outputs due to Covid-19 are encouraged to provide an additional paragraph in their supporting statement explaining this. The University of Oxford is committed to equality and valuing diversity. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.

Last Date for Apply:
