Postdoctoral Research Fellow – History: The University of Notre Dame’s History of Philosophy Forum is inviting applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the History of Philosophy. This position, starting on August 1, 2024, is renewable for up to three years. The fellow will be actively involved in research, teaching, and contributing to the academic life of the University, the Philosophy Department, and the History of Philosophy Forum.

Location: University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. obtained between August 1, 2019, and July 31, 2024 (preference given to candidates awarded their Ph.D. by the application deadline)
  • Research in any area of the history of philosophy
  • Preference for candidates whose research aligns with the Philosophy Department’s strengths in the history of philosophy
  • Prior experience with mentoring undergraduate research and writing

Job Description:

  • Research: Primarily oriented towards research, the fellow will dedicate the majority of their time to pursuing research in the history of philosophy, leading to significant scholarly publications.
  • Teaching: The fellow will teach one undergraduate course each semester within their area of expertise, decided in collaboration with the Philosophy Department’s Chair.
  • Service: Contribution to a new History of Philosophy Forum program for mentoring advanced undergraduates in research and writing. Active participation in academic events, workshops, and colloquia.
