Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Chemistry: The Lukesh research group at Wake Forest University, Department of Chemistry, is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow specializing in organic chemistry/chemical biology. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Prof. John Lukesh to develop small molecule donors and reaction-based sensors for investigating reactive sulfur and selenium species’ chemical biology and therapeutic applications.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.
- Proficiency in multistep organic synthesis.
- Experience with modern synthetic chemistry, chromatography, and spectroscopic methods.
- Familiarity with biochemical assays, molecular biology, and/or cell culture techniques.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Competence in lab safety and chemical reagent handling.
- Proficiency in computer usage, including spreadsheets and safety training.
- Physical ability to perform medium-level work.
Job Description:
Essential Functions:
- Designing molecules and executing multistep organic synthesis.
- Assessing properties of target molecules across chemical, photophysical, and biological domains.
- Contributing innovative research ideas.
- Training and supervising research students.
- Maintaining detailed research records and ensuring a safe work environment.
- Authoring research articles for publication.
Accountabilities:
- Autonomous execution of assigned tasks.
- Providing guidance and support to graduate and undergraduate research students.
Physical Requirements:
- Involves medium physical exertion up to 50 pounds.
- Requires engaging in various physical activities like stooping, kneeling, reaching, and lifting.
- Visual acuity and close attention to detail.
Environmental Conditions:
- Exposure to inside environmental conditions and potential hazards like chemicals, with appropriate safety equipment provided.
