Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (UFS Grid Related Research Group)
Designation: Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Research Area: Interdisciplinary applied physics with High-Performance Computing (HPC) support
Location: Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at UFS
- PhD degree in a relevant discipline (physics, theoretical physics, astrophysics, applied mathematics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, medical physics, or equivalent) within the last five years
- Applicants must not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
- Relocation to the UFS for the fellowship’s duration (residential fellowship)
Job Description: The successful candidate will:
- Conduct innovative research in interdisciplinary applied physics with HPC support
- Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year
- Initiate projects, seek funding, and collaborate in a group environment
- Focus on interdisciplinary work in physics, engineering, medicine, and mathematics
- Translate methods to researchers from other fields
- Spend time in different research groups supporting main project outcomes
- Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at UFS
- Participate in relevant activities of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Directorate of Research Development

Competencies: Proficiency in written and spoken English, strong background in high-level programming languages (preferably Python), knowledge of High-Performance Computing, and experience with complex systems’ analysis and data interpretation.
