Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: The Max Planck Institute for Geoanthropology is seeking a dedicated and innovative researcher for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship focused on integrating multidisciplinary models of past human land use into Earth system models. Eligibility/Qualification

  • Essential:
  • PhD and Master’s degree in Earth Sciences, Geography, Earth Systems Modeling, Climate Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with Earth System Models (Global Climate and/or Vegetation Models).
  • Strong computational background in Earth System or Ecological Modeling, Climate Science, or Physics.
  • In-depth knowledge of Earth System Models, including the role of land use in these models.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, evidenced by an excellent publication record.
  • Advantageous:
  • Analytical experience in tropical regions.
  • Familiarity with archaeological, historical, and palaeoenvironmental datasets.
  • Enthusiasm for applying scientific methods to historical contexts.
  • Outreach skills for communicating climate science to non-academic audiences.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Integrate multidisciplinary models of past human land use into Earth system models.
  • Analyze and determine the effects of pre-industrial human activities on climate variables such as soil erosion, precipitation, temperature, and atmospheric composition.
  • Collaborate with key project partners and engage with ongoing international research initiatives.
  • Contribute to innovative research that utilizes archaeological and palaeoenvironmental datasets.
