Eligibility / Qualification

Essential Requirements

  • PhD degree (completed or near completion)
  • Experience in FPLC-based protein purification and protein biochemistry
  • Strong academic track record (publications or preprints)
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • Strong motivation to develop as an independent scientist

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in structural biology (X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM)
  • Experience with microbiology and/or bacteriophage experiments

Job Description

The selected candidate will investigate novel prokaryotic Argonaute proteins whose functions and mechanisms are not yet understood. The research will involve:

  • Functional and mechanistic characterization of Argonaute proteins
  • Use of bioinformatics and bacterial genetics approaches
  • In vivo experiments including bacteriophage systems
  • In vitro protein biochemistry and structural studies
  • Collaboration within a multidisciplinary research team

The project will be co-supervised by Daan Swarts and John van der Oost.
