Postdoctoral Research Scholar: The School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Postdoctoral Research Scholar. This full-time, benefits-eligible, one-year position, with potential renewal, is part of the NSF-funded Government-imposed Restrictions on International Economic Relations (GRIER) project. The successful candidate will contribute to the coding of new data on economic restrictions and play a crucial role in advancing the scholarly study of sanctions.

Location: Arizona State University, Tempe

Eligibility/Qualification: Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Political Science, International Relations, Computer Science, Economics, or related field (conferred no earlier than Spring 2022)
  • Experience in data collection and management
  • Programming skills in R (preferred), Python, or Stata
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Commitment to advancing ASU Charter principles

Desired qualifications:

  • Advanced methods skills in quantitative text analysis, machine learning, web scraping, network modeling, spatial econometrics, or item response modeling
  • Substantive research experience in economic sanctions, export controls, commodity trade, supply chains, armed conflict, or deterrence

Job Description: The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator Timothy M. Peterson and Co-PI Dursun Peksen. Responsibilities include data collection, evaluation, and analysis related to economic restrictions from 1992-2023. The position also offers opportunities for research publication in peer-reviewed outlets.
