Postdoctoral Research Scientist (f/m/d): The Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) at the University of Bremen is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Physical Oceanography to explore the upwelling and temperature variability in the Northeastern Tropical Atlantic. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A completed academic university degree (Master/University Diploma) in Physical Oceanography, Physics, or a related field.
  • PhD in Physical Oceanography or a closely related field (Applicants nearing completion of their doctorate can apply, but a PhD certificate is necessary for employment).
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (preferably Python and/or Matlab).
  • Experience in the analysis of large data sets.
  • Background in observational physical oceanography.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English.

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will conduct independent research on the following topics:

  • Upwelling and temperature variability in the Northeastern Tropical Atlantic.
  • Investigating the relationship between sea surface temperature and upwelling variability.
  • Exploring additional processes contributing to near-surface temperature variations off Mauritania.

Tasks will include:

  • Conducting research and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Academic assistance in teaching (4 SWS including practical skills and scientific methods instruction).
  • Participation in research projects and cruises.
  • Engaging in other university duties, including academic self-administration.
