Eligibility/Qualification:
- A completed academic university degree (Master/University Diploma) in Physical Oceanography, Physics, or a related field.
- PhD in Physical Oceanography or a closely related field (Applicants nearing completion of their doctorate can apply, but a PhD certificate is necessary for employment).
- Proficiency in scientific programming (preferably Python and/or Matlab).
- Experience in the analysis of large data sets.
- Background in observational physical oceanography.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will conduct independent research on the following topics:
- Upwelling and temperature variability in the Northeastern Tropical Atlantic.
- Investigating the relationship between sea surface temperature and upwelling variability.
- Exploring additional processes contributing to near-surface temperature variations off Mauritania.
Tasks will include:
- Conducting research and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Academic assistance in teaching (4 SWS including practical skills and scientific methods instruction).
- Participation in research projects and cruises.
- Engaging in other university duties, including academic self-administration.
