Postdoctoral Position in USA

Postdoctoral Researcher: The KU Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis (CEBC) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher. The selected candidate will contribute to federally funded and/or industry-sponsored research projects, with a focus on environmentally beneficial catalysis. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: The research projects may cover various areas, including:

  1. Design, synthesis, and characterization of heterogeneous catalysts.
  2. Reaction engineering, modeling, and experimental characterization of novel reactor designs.
  3. Engineering tunable solvents for reactions or energy-efficient separations.
  4. Advanced spectroscopic measurements and surface science.

Location: On-site at the KU Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis (CEBC).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline earned within the past five years.
  • Strong research history in relevant fields.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a research team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Substantial experience in biomass conversions, catalytic oxidations, hydroformylation, hydrogenolysis, ozonolysis, electrocatalytic reduction, and solid acid catalysis.
  • Mentoring experience, particularly at the undergraduate or master’s level.
  • Research proposal development, presentation, and execution skills.

Job Description:

  • 70%: Conduct research from initial proof-of-concept through optimized bench-scale catalytic processes, including environmental impact and economic evaluations.
  • 20%: Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, mentor students and researchers, and communicate with private industry partners.
  • 5%: Publish and report research results, assist in securing intellectual property rights.
  • 5%: Participate in professional development, educational outreach, safety, recruiting, and diversity activities.

Advertised Salary Range: $55,000 commensurate with skills and experience.
