Postdoctoral Researcher at Marquette University: The Cook Lab in Biological Sciences at Marquette University is seeking a postdoctoral research scientist to fulfill obligations for a funded National Science Foundation grant. The project involves field and lab research experiments focused on identifying complex gene networks associated with thermoregulatory behavior in honey bees. This is a 12-month full-time position with the possibility of renewal.

Location: Marquette University, Wisconsin

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Earned doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in relevant field
  • At least 2 years of experience in bee genomics, genetics, molecular biology, cellular or developmental biology
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in insect genomics/transcriptomics/RNAi/Epigenetics
  • Experience in mentoring/teaching students from diverse backgrounds
  • Organizational and detail-oriented skills
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Experience with single-cell sequencing, nanopore direct-sequencing, or Illumina sequencing
  • Skills in bioinformatics, data science, programming, or computational biology
  • Comfort with stinging insects

Job Description:

  • Design, manage, and perform field and laboratory behavioral and physiological experiments
  • Prepare samples for sequencing and direct routine molecular biology procedures
  • Manage honey bee colonies and laboratory equipment
  • Perform bioinformatic analysis and assist with data analysis and interpretation
  • Prepare research findings for presentations and publications
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • Ensure compliance with quality control protocols and standard operating procedures
  • Use Laboratory Information Management Systems for documentation
  • Prepare and submit reports and manuscripts
  • Facilitate lab operations and assist faculty/students
