Postdoctoral Researcher at Umeå: Join the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology at Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) to explore the cambial response to water deficit in poplar trees. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative research in experimental tree biology, plant physiology, and molecular biology.
Designation
Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area
Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology
Location
Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology, SLU, Umeå, Sweden
Eligibility/Qualification
- Formal Requirements:
- PhD in plant biology, plant physiology, molecular biology, forest sciences, or a closely related field (awarded before decision on the position).
- Documented experience in at least one of the following: tree/woody plant biology, water relations, biomechanics, wood formation, or molecular biology of vascular tissues.
- Strong skills in experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Meritorious Qualifications:
- Experience with tree experimental systems.
- Skills in physiological measurements (e.g., leaf water potential, dendrometers) and/or wood anatomy.
- Experience with RNA sequencing, transcriptomics, or hormone profiling.
- Knowledge of biomechanics.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and international research environments.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Job Description
The postdoctoral researcher will:
- Design and conduct water deficit experiments in poplar trees using controlled growth platforms.
- Monitor stem growth dynamics and water relations in high temporal resolution.
- Perform anatomical and biomechanical analyses of cambial and xylem tissues.
- Conduct molecular analyses including RNA sequencing, gene regulatory network inference, and hormonal profiling.
- Develop genetic tools (RNAi or similar) to test candidate genes involved in cambial responses.
- Disseminate results through scientific publications and presentations.
