Postdoctoral Researcher – Chemical Biology, University of New Hampshire, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

Postdoctoral Researcher – Chemical Biology: The Postdoctoral Researcher will be an integral part of the innovative research projects focused on the design and development of chemical and fluorescent probes to visualize biological events in cells.

Postdoctoral Researcher – Chemical Biology and Organic Chemistry

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher – Chemical Biology and Organic Chemistry

Research Area:
The research will primarily focus on the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel organic compounds aimed at facilitating fluorescence imaging of cellular membranes. Additionally, the researcher will be involved in cell culture and the development of assays to test the prepared compounds in live and fixed cells using confocal and super-resolution imaging techniques.

Location: University of New Hampshire, Durham

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in a Chemical Science with a specialization in organic synthesis
  • Strong publication record
  • Experience in design and synthesis of fluorescent molecules and compounds with bioorthogonal functional groups
  • Proficiency in the analysis of organic compounds with UV-Vis, NMR, and in cells with fluorescence imaging
  • Knowledge of cell culture techniques
  • Familiarity with image processing software including ImageJ
  • Preferred: Experience in computational programs such as Gaussian, Python, and machine learning analysis programs, independent researcher positions, and a record of mentorship

Job Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel organic compounds, enabling fluorescence imaging of cellular membranes. The role also entails conducting cell culture and developing assays to test the prepared compounds in live and fixed cells using confocal and super-resolution imaging. Additionally, the successful applicant will exemplify a strong interest in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students with limited research experience in the laboratory. Research in the White-Mathieu group focuses on designing chemical and fluorescent probes to visualize biological events in cells, including the development of new classes of fluorescent molecules, responsive probes to visualize changes in membrane structure, and super-resolution imaging strategies for membrane characterization. Students and researchers in the laboratory undergo training in organic synthesis and chemical biology.
