Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in Climate or Earth Science, Physics, or a related field (degree must be obtained before the project’s start).
  • Advanced programming skills (Python, Fortran, R, Julia) and data handling expertise.
  • Strong interest in climate modeling and interdisciplinary, collaborative research.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of dynamical vegetation modeling is an advantage.

Job Description:

  • Enhance the integration of the Earth System Model of Intermediate Complexity (Bern3D) and the Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (LPX-Bern).
  • Simulate fully coupled feedbacks between land, atmosphere, ocean, and ice sheets.
  • Quantify and identify feedbacks and tipping points within the climate system.
  • Validate model outcomes against paleoclimate data and conduct simulations of future climate scenarios.
  • Collaborate in ongoing international projects, including the Tipping Point Model Intercomparison project (TIPMIP).
  • Contribute to high-quality scientific publications and present findings at international scientific conferences.
