Postdoctoral Position - 2019 in Netherlands, Delft University of Technology
Postdoctoral Researcher – Electrolysis: TU Delft is seeking a passionate and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the effects of temperature on the performance and stability of carbon dioxide electrolyzers. This role is based within the Process & Energy department of the Mechanical Engineering faculty, under the guidance of Dr. Ruud Kortlever.

Postdoctoral Researcher – Temperature Effects in Carbon Dioxide Electrolysis

Designation

Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area

Temperature Effects in Carbon Dioxide Electrolysis

Location

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physical Chemistry, or similar field.
  • Hands-on experimental experience with electrochemistry.
  • Proficiency in material characterization techniques.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive and creative mindset.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and oral presentation skills.

Job Description

A major contributor to climate change is carbon dioxide emissions. To counter this, carbon-free energy sources like wind and solar are crucial, but their intermittent nature does not always match electricity demand. This necessitates large-scale energy storage solutions.

Carbon dioxide electrolysis offers a way to store renewable energy in stable chemical bonds, contributing to a carbon-neutral energy cycle when combined with carbon capture. This postdoc position is part of a Dutch Open Technology project (e-Heat) focusing on determining the effects of temperature on the electrocatalytic performance and material stability of CO2 electrolyzers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Investigate the effect of temperature on electrocatalytic performance and material stability.
  • Develop temperature dependency mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and be part of the e-Refinery institute.
  • Publish research findings in scientific literature and present the technology to the general public.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should apply online by uploading their motivation letter and CV. Applications sent via email or post will not be processed.
