Postdoctoral Researcher – EMERSYS: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the EMERSYS research group at the Research Institute on Horticulture and Seeds (IRHS) in Angers, France. This position is part of the EU-funded project “Bexyl – Beyond Xylella, Integrated Management Strategies for Mitigating Xylella fastidiosa impact in Europe.” The successful candidate will investigate the mechanisms shaping the adaptation of the phytopathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa to its host environments, with a particular focus on the host-associated microbiota. The project offers an excellent opportunity for international collaborations and provides a two-year appointment.

  • PhD in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, or Microbial Genomics

  • Experience in laboratory work (microbiology, molecular biology, genetics)
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics for genome analysis
  • Additional knowledge or work experience in plant-related research is advantageous
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
  • Good organizational and communication skills

Job Description:

Postdoctoral Researcher – EMERSYS: Ecologie des Bactéries Associées aux Plantes

The selected candidate will contribute to the investigation of the mechanisms underlying the adaptation of the phytopathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa to its host plants and the host-associated microbiota. The research will involve studying the genetic basis of host plant adaptation in X. fastidiosa using high-quality genomes, functional validation of candidate genes, and comparing the host range, infection dynamics, and pathogenicity of different strains on Mediterranean host plants. Additionally, the interactions between X. fastidiosa and the host-associated viral community will be explored. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to pursue specific research avenues based on their interests within the project scope.
