Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral position within the ERC-funded project “Cool T-ReX.” This project aims to develop a unique pulsed electron source with exceptionally high transverse coherence to demonstrate time-resolved protein crystallography on a table-top setup using electrons instead of X-rays.
| Designation | Postdoctoral Researcher |
| Research Area | Applied Physics, Serial Electron Diffraction (ED), Protein Crystallography |
| Location | Eindhoven, Netherlands |
| Last Date for Apply | November 21, 2026 |
Job Description
The successful candidate will take the lead on the implementation of Serial Electron Diffraction (ED) on a newly developed, innovative instrument. Working within the Coherence and Quantum Technology group, you will collaborate with a team of PhD candidates and technicians to achieve time-resolved crystallography. This demonstration will utilize protein crystals provided by collaborators and Graphene Liquid Cells assembled using commercial solutions.
Key responsibilities include leading the experimental implementation of Serial ED, collaborating in an interdisciplinary environment, and contributing to high-quality academic research outputs.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- A PhD in serial ED or microED, preferably focused on protein crystals.
- Proven experience or affinity with method development and/or instrumentation development.
- Strong ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with experts outside your immediate field.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to organize a complex workload.
- Excellent proficiency in English (written and verbal).
- Advantageous skills: Experience with mechanical and optical design, charged particle optics, lasers, high vacuum systems, or high voltage systems.
Conditions of Employment
- Full-time employment for a period of 2.5 years.
- Gross monthly salary between €4,422 and €5,760 (Scale 10), depending on experience.
