Postdoctoral Researcher in AI-based Weather Forecasting

Location: Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Scientific university degree and PhD in computer science, data science, meteorology, physics, or related disciplines
- Experience in implementing and interpreting outputs of deep learning models (e.g., Transformer, Graph Neural Networks)
- Knowledge of uncertainty quantification, sub-seasonal forecasting, and experience with HPC systems and workflow optimizations are advantageous
Job Description:
- Implement probabilistic AI-based weather forecasting systems in collaboration with the Junior Research Group “Robust and Efficient AI” at KIT-SCC
- Fine-tune AI-based weather forecasting models with a focus on the source region of forecast errors
- Work on locally higher resolution implementation using simulation data generated with ICON, the NWP model of German Weather Service
- Conduct outreach activities and public relations for ASPIRE, including website management and representation at conferences
- Develop a user infrastructure for model deployment available to the public
- Prepare and publish scientific papers
