Postdoctoral Researcher in Bio-inspired Robotics: Empa, a leading research institution of the ETH Domain, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Soft Kinetic group. The researcher will contribute to pioneering research in bio-inspired robotics, focusing on the development of life-like robot movement by translating mechanisms from biology into robotic physical models. Your responsibilities:

  1. Develop novel bio-inspired robotic devices for investigating robust locomotion transitions.
  2. Design mechatronic rigs involving interfacing through microcontrollers to motors, encoders, and sensors.
  3. Design and implement closed-loop control strategies for robotic systems.
  4. Conduct experiments to evaluate robot locomotion performance utilizing measurement techniques.
  5. Determine engineering requirements based on physical foundations underpinning designs.
  6. Collaborate with the group to integrate developed systems into larger projects and propose follow-up research.

Your profile:

  • Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Background in bio-inspired robotics, mechatronics, and embedded systems.
  • Experience with hardware design, additive manufacturing, and prototyping.
  • Methodological and goal-oriented working behavior with good management skills.
  • Comfortable in a multidisciplinary environment and enjoys teamwork.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Self-motivated, open-minded, and communicative attitude.
  • Record of publications in top-tier robotics conferences and journals preferred.
  • Experience with underactuated systems, bending actuators, and/or soft sensors desired.
