Eligibility / Qualification

  • PhD in microbiology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis (e.g., metagenomics, amplicon sequencing) applicable to seed or plant microbiomes.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R) and familiarity with bioinformatics tools (e.g., QIIME2, DADA2, SILVA).
  • Publication record demonstrating high-quality research in microbiome science or related fields, particularly involving plant or seed microbiomes.
  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques for cultivation and characterization of seed-associated microorganisms.
  • Willingness to contribute to research proposal preparations and project reports.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Job Description

  • Conduct integrative analyses of microbiome datasets to explore microbial communities and their functions within seeds.
  • Perform microbiological experiments, including the isolation, cultivation, and characterization of seed-associated microorganisms.
  • Investigate the role of the seed microbiome in microbial inheritance and overall plant health.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and develop research proposals for external funding.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in microbiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
  • Mentor and guide junior scientists, including Bachelor and Master students.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
