Postdoctoral Researcher in Causal Machine Learning: Ghent University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Causal Machine Learning to contribute to an Advanced ERC Grant project. The role involves academic research, development of statistical and machine learning techniques, and mentorship of PhD students.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A thesis-based PhD within the last 6 years in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in machine learning; familiarity with causal inference or debiased machine learning is advantageous.
  • Proven research excellence, demonstrated by high-quality publications.
  • Strong analytical skills, creativity, and the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in English (C1 CEFR level) is mandatory.

Job Description:

  • Engage in academic research (at least 70% of the assignment).
  • Develop a general framework for assumption-lean causal and statistical modeling.
  • Advance techniques in debiased machine learning and orthogonal statistical learning.
  • Translate large-sample statistical results into practical learning tools.
  • Oversee the application of these techniques to real-world medical datasets.
  • Co-mentor PhD students within the research team.
  • Produce high-quality scientific publications for leading journals and conferences.
  • Provide limited support for teaching and supervise bachelor/master theses related to the project.
