Postdoctoral Researcher in Condensed Matter Theory: The Department of Physics at the University of Jyväskylä is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for research on driven-dissipative heterostructures and quantum engineered systems. This position will start on January 2, 2026, or as agreed, and is a fixed term of 2 years with a potential extension to a third year.

Condensed Matter Theory and Quantum Physics, focusing on dynamics of engineered quantum systems, non-equilibrium and Floquet topology, dissipation, and driving in heterostructures.

University of Jyväskylä, Finland


Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A doctoral degree in physics or a related field, with a thesis on a theoretical topic.
  • Strong foundation in condensed matter physics, quantum physics, and statistical mechanics.
  • Skills in one or more of the following areas are considered an asset:
  • Quantum master equations and numerical techniques.
  • Keldysh field theory or quasiclassical Green’s functions.
  • Exact diagonalization and tensor network methods (e.g., MPS, PEPS).
  • Theory of topological insulators and superconductors.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Description:

  • Conduct basic research on quantum engineered materials and their use in quantum simulation.
  • Develop and apply theoretical methods, including quantum master equations and numerical techniques for open quantum systems.
  • Collaborate with the Condensed Matter Theory and Quantum Simulation Theory groups.
  • Use computational facilities at the University of Jyväskylä and national scientific computing centres.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at international conferences.
