Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience in:
  • Heterologous protein production
  • Purification and characterization using spectrophotometric or LC-MS-based assays.
  • Background in enzyme engineering through:
  • Targeted or random mutagenesis
  • High-throughput screening
  • Directed evolution
  • Growth coupling
  • Knowledge of enzyme structure analysis via crystallography or cryo-EM techniques is advantageous.
  • Interest in metabolic engineering and synthetic biology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an international project with readiness for travel.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will focus on characterizing and engineering enzymes aimed at the efficient conversion of single-carbon feedstocks. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing biochemical characterization of naturally occurring enzymes.
  • Improving enzyme properties via diverse approaches, including:
  • Structure-based mutagenesis
  • Growth-coupled selection
  • Directed evolution.
  • Collaborating with various partner institutions across Europe.
  • Engaging in an innovative interdisciplinary research project.
