Summary
Karolinska Institutet is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position within the Rydén and Mejhert laboratory. This multidisciplinary research group focuses on how alterations in human white adipocyte function contribute to cardiometabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and atherosclerosis. The project aims to uncover how distinct human adipose stem and progenitor cell (ASPCs) populations determine cell fate and tissue organization using advanced experimental and clinical approaches.

Job Description
The successful candidate will take a leading role in experimental design, method development, data generation, and interpretation. The mission involves investigating fundamental mechanisms of human adipose tissue development in a research environment closely connected to metabolic disease. Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating lineage relationships between progenitor populations and their contributions to tissue formation.
- Identifying mechanisms that enable transplanted cells to establish adipose tissue in vivo.
- Utilizing mammalian cell culture, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), and genetic manipulation (including CRISPR).
- Performing lineage tracing, in vivo transplantation, and tissue imaging.
- Collaborating with bioinformaticians to interpret single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomic profiling data.
Eligibility/Qualification
To be eligible for this postdoctoral position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A PhD or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish PhD (must be completed by the time of the employment decision).
- A strong background in experimental cell biology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, or a related field.
- Essential hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular techniques.
- Highly valued experience in flow cytometry, cell sorting, and the isolation of defined cell populations.
- Experience with mouse models, particularly cell transplantation or tissue regeneration, is a significant asset.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
- Completion of a doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system. The application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
