Postdoctoral Researcher in In-Operando Photoemission, Leuven, Belgium

Job Overview

FieldDetails
DesignationPostdoctoral Researcher
Research AreaIn-Operando Photoemission for Semiconductor Technologies
LocationLeuven, Belgium
DepartmentChemical and Surface Analysis (within Materials and Component Analysis)

Summary

As device dimensions shrink, surfaces and buried interfaces become critical to performance and reliability. This role focuses on advancing in-operando photoemission (XPS, HAXPES) from an experimental concept to a robust, routine capability for probing the electronic structure and chemistry of next-generation semiconductor devices.

Job Description

  • Method Development: Develop and mature in-operando XPS and HAXPES workflows to measure energy-level shifts under applied bias.
  • Experimental Work: Conduct hands-on experiments, document results, and manage complex spectra analysis.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with process, integration, and device experts to correlate photoemission findings with electrical data (e.g., capacitance-voltage analysis).
  • Strategic Growth: Follow scientific literature to identify new opportunities and position in-operando photoemission as a key capability within imec’s advanced fab environment.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: PhD in Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Strong hands-on experience with photoemission techniques (XPS, HAXPES) in academic or industrial R&D.
  • Skills: * Analytical depth with a focus on experimental method development.
    • Fluency in English and strong communication skills.
  • Assets: Knowledge of gate-stack physics, electrical characterization, or semiconductor device physics is a strong advantage.
