Postdoctoral Researcher in Microbial Informatics: The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in bioinformatics/computational biology and a keen interest in human genetics and the microbiome. As a member of the Oxford Centre for Microbiome Studies (OCMS), you will collaborate with various research programs focusing on microbe-immune interactions, inflammation, and disease.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Microbial Informatics

Location: Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford OX3 7FY.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree (or near completion) in a relevant discipline of computational genomics and/or statistical genetics.
  • Strong experience in bioinformatics and computational biology, with a focus on analyzing complex genomic datasets.
  • Demonstrated competence with Python, R, and version control software.
  • Proven track record of high-quality research, evidenced by publications in reputable scientific journals.
  • Experience in supervising junior research group members is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral presentations and scientific manuscript contributions.
  • Ability to document and present code.
  • Desirable experience includes contributing to grant proposals and analyzing microbiome and/or human genome datasets.

Job Description: As a Postdoctoral Researcher in Microbial Informatics, you will play a lead role in the computational analysis of microbiome and human genome datasets, with a specific focus on their integration and interaction analysis. You will work collaboratively with wet and dry-lab biologists, contributing to the analysis of large microbiome datasets (e.g., NGS, metabolomics) and integrating them with host genetic and multi-omic data (e.g., genotyping, whole-genome sequencing, and single-cell sequencing).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the computational analysis of microbiome and human genome datasets.
  • Independently work on the integration and interaction analysis of datasets.
  • Assist in supervising junior research group members.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a central, open-source code collection for bioinformatic analysis and integration of microbiome and multi-omic datasets.
  • Regularly report scientific activities and project progress to group leads.
