Research Area:

The project focuses on developing biorefinery technologies to upgrade fermentation-based microbial biomasses into functional and consumer-accepted food ingredients. This interdisciplinary project involves a combination of biotechnology, food technology, and sustainability with industrial partners in the food sector.

Division of Food and Nutrition Science, Department of Life Sciences, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD (awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline) in Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Bioprocessing, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in downstream processing, separation, and protein quality.
  • Proven laboratory experience with fermentation-based biomasses, biorefinery technologies, and protein functionality assessments (e.g., spectroscopy, rheology).
  • Experience in analyzing chemical compounds using advanced analytical techniques like mass spectrometry.

Job Description:

  • Develop and implement experimental research on downstream processing and microbial biorefinery.
  • Optimize microbial protein functionality and flavor while ensuring scalability and economic viability.
  • Design innovative process strategies for upgrading fermentation side streams into high-value ingredients.
  • Collaborate with both academic and industry partners to ensure the success of the project.
  • Supervise MSc and PhD students, and actively contribute to publications and presentations.
  • Engage in dissemination and potential future project proposals.
