Postdoctoral Researcher in Microbiome Research : The professorship of Translational Microbiome Data Integration at the Technical University of Munich, located in Freising-Weihenstephan, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join their team. The research focus of this lab centers on the human microbiome, specifically gut microbes, and their role in host-microbial interactions in health and disease. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on projects related to oral-gut translocation in disease and hormone-microbiome interactions impacting female health. The researcher will employ integrated multi-omics analyses, including metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metabolomics, along with laboratory work to investigate these mechanisms.
Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area: Microbiome Research, Host-Microbial Interactions, Gut Microbes, Human Health
Location: Technical University of Munich, Freising-Weihenstephan
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in microbiology or a relevant field.
- Proficiency in classical and molecular microbiology techniques.
- Experience in culturing bacteria, particularly anaerobes, and isolating bacterial strains from human samples.
- Additional qualifications:
- Experience with immunological assays and human cell lines is advantageous.

Job Description: The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for isolating and cultivating disease-related bacterial strains, characterizing their gene expression and metabolic capabilities, studying their immunomodulatory potential, and investigating host-microbe interactions. The role also involves sample handling, such as DNA/RNA extractions, and contributing to publications, grant applications, and protocols. The researcher will have the opportunity to network with national and international collaborators and present their work at conferences and scientific meetings.
Our Offer: This position offers an interdisciplinary research project within a collaborative and innovative research environment. The successful candidate will investigate predicted strain-specific host-microbial interactions, bacterial adaptation to different environments, changes in bacterial metabolism and functions, and potentially engage in bioinformatic analyses. The initial appointment is for two years, with a competitive salary based on the German collective wage agreement in public services (TV-L 13).
How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their full application as a single PDF to Prof. Dr. Melanie Schirmer via email at melanie.schirmer@tum.de or by mail to the address provided above.
