Postdoctoral Researcher in Mineral-Microbe Interfaces: The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is seeking a qualified postdoctoral researcher to join the Interface Geochemistry section. The successful candidate will focus on utilizing scanning electron microscopy to study mineral-microbe interfaces within aquatic biofilms or soils, contributing to significant research projects within biogeochemistry, geobiology, environmental mineralogy, or geochemistry.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s and PhD degree in biogeochemistry, environmental mineralogy, or equivalent.
  • Strong emphasis and experience in electron microscopic characterization.
  • Skills in imaging/analyses of complex Earth material interfaces.
  • Experience with inorganic/geobiological sample preparation.
  • Proven track record of publications and presentations.
  • Excellent interdisciplinary and international teamwork capabilities.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of German is an asset.

Job Description:

  • Develop and apply electron microscopy methods for geo(bio)materials.
  • Focus research on mineral-microbe interactions in aquatic or soil environments.
  • Combine microscopy results with other analytical data.
  • Publish findings in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research at national and international conferences.
  • Participate in writing funding proposals.
  • Contribute to the co-supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Potentially develop independent research directions.
