Designation:

Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area:

Molecular Biology, Marine Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Environmental Science

Location:

Royal NIOZ, Texel, Netherlands

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Proven expertise in experimental and computational workflows for analyzing microbial diversity and function (DNA/RNA-seq).
  • Experience with long-read sequencing platforms and stable isotope probing.
  • Willingness to participate in sea-going expeditions.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will join the NanoMare project focusing on the sources, fate, and microbial degradation of nanoplastics (<1 µm) in the ocean. Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying key microbial players in nanoplastic degradation.
  • Studying gene expression related to nanoplastic degradation and its potential toxic effects.
  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team during ocean-going expeditions and using high-pressure incubation techniques to study microbial-nanoplastic interactions.
