Postdoctoral Researcher in Physics and Chemistry: The University of Eastern Finland is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Department of Technical Physics on the Kuopio campus. This position is part of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Anthropocenic Chemical Ecology of Forests (ACE-Forest) and will focus on advancing the understanding of chemical ecology in forest ecosystems.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Doctoral degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Completion of degree less than five years ago (excluding parental leaves, military service, etc.).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Strong motivation for research in aerosol physics or chemistry.

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Researcher will:

  • Identify stress-induced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from vegetation.
  • Study the kinetic formation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) from these VOCs.
  • Characterize the chemistry of SOA particles and determine SOA and VOC fluxes to vegetation.
  • Conduct experiments in atmospheric simulation chambers.
  • Participate in field campaigns or model SOA formation and deposition processes.
  • Report results in international scientific publications and conferences.
  • May include teaching duties related to the candidate’s expertise.
