Postdoctoral Researcher in Plant Genetics: The Plant Genetics and Rhizospheric Processes (PGRP) Laboratory at the University of Liège (Gembloux Campus, Belgium) is recruiting a motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to investigate novel traits in wild plant species that help mitigate nitrogen losses in agroecosystems. The primary focus is on understanding and leveraging the Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) trait in Plantago lanceolata (ribwort plantain) through advanced genetic and bioinformatics approaches.

Eligibility / Qualification:
- PhD in Plant Genetics, Bioinformatics, or related disciplines
- Proven expertise and scientific publications in relevant research areas
- Knowledge of plant physiology and/or microbiology is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken)
- Strong coordination and teamwork abilities
- Mobility requirement: Candidate must have resided outside Belgium for at least 24 of the 36 months prior to the fellowship start date and must not have worked or studied in Belgium during that time.
Job Description:
- Investigate the genetic basis of BNI activity in Plantago lanceolata
- Sequence and characterize genetic collections and breeding populations
- Utilize GWAS and omics approaches to identify genes/markers related to BNI traits
- Develop and implement innovative soil-based assays for trait analysis
- Collaborate with international research partners including FiBL (Switzerland), John Innes Centre (UK), IPK (Germany), Teagasc and UCD (Ireland)
- Contribute to sustainable agricultural research funded by FNRS and ERA-Net programs
