Postdoctoral Researcher in Plant Metabolism: The Botanical Institute and Botanical Garden at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the newly funded DFG Research Group PlantsCoChallenge. The position focuses on the regulatory mechanisms of plant energy metabolism, starting on September 1, 2024, for a duration of four years.

Research Area:

Regulation mechanisms of plant energy metabolism, particularly focusing on the flexibility of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and its adaptation to fluctuating environmental conditions.

Location:

Kiel, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in molecular life sciences with a focus on plant sciences.
  • Interest in fundamental and mechanistic questions of energy metabolism and plant-environment interactions.
  • Expertise in plant genetics, enzyme biochemistry, and respiratory rate determination is advantageous.
  • Excellent English proficiency (minimum C1) and basic German proficiency (minimum A1) are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong motivation, excellent communication and organizational skills, initiative, and independent working style.
  • Ability to think analytically and scientifically, and to write clearly.
  • Enjoyment of interaction and collaboration with other research groups and supervising students.

Job Description:

  • Planning and conducting laboratory experiments on the response of barley and seagrass to hypoxia and elicitor exposure.
  • Measuring physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses, particularly regarding respiration, metabolome, and transcriptome.
  • Independently managing a major piece of equipment and performing high-throughput respiration measurements.
  • Conducting joint experiments with GEOMAR in Kiel and the University of Münster.
  • Presenting research results at national and international workshops and conferences.
  • Writing and submitting manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
  • Actively participating in courses and project meetings of the research group.
  • Supporting PhD students and supervising MSc and/or BSc students.
