Postdoctoral Researcher in Power Grid Stability: Chalmers University of Technology is seeking a competent and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Division of Electric Power Engineering. The selected candidate will contribute to research and education in the area of sustainable electric power systems, focusing on the impact of distributed renewable generation on grid stability and potential flexibility-based solutions.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Flexible Distributed Generation and Demand for Power Grid Stability

Location: Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in Electric Power Engineering, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Swedish is not required, but courses are available).
  • Experience in frequency and voltage regulation, inverter-based resources (IBR), power reserve strategies, and hardware-in-the-loop testing is advantageous.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research within the FLEXDIS project, analyzing the impact of distributed renewable generation on grid stability.
  • Evaluate existing limitations of inverter-based resources (IBR) in handling power imbalances and faults.
  • Develop solutions for ensuring sufficient power reserves, including flexible demand from thermal and electric vehicle loads.
  • Validate findings through simulations, hardware-in-the-loop setups, and tests in a living lab.
  • Collaborate with members of the FLEXDIS CET Partnership consortium from both academia and industry.
  • Participate in departmental duties such as teaching and supervision (approximately 10%).
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Contract Terms:

  • Full-time, temporary employment for two years.
