Postdoctoral Researcher in Sensing Applications: The VIB-Vrije Universiteit Brussel Center for Structural Biology is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Anastassia Vorobieva Lab for a fully funded 2-year postdoc position. The interdisciplinary project combines computational and wet lab work to design and test innovative transmembrane beta-barrel pores for single-molecule sensing applications. Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. in Sciences (e.g., Biochemistry, Biophysics) or Bio-engineering sciences.
- Strong background in recombinant expression, purification, and handling of membrane proteins in detergent micelles and synthetic lipid membranes.
- Experience in single-channel recording, python scripting, and/or High-Performance Computing is desired.
- A keen interest in protein design and an engineering-oriented mindset.
- Experience with research valorization and intellectual property (IP) will be regarded as a plus.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Design of Protein Nanopore for Sensing Applications
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for:
- Computational design of transmembrane beta-barrel pores.
- Production and purification of designed proteins from E. coli inclusion bodies.
- Biophysical characterization in detergent micelles and synthetic lipid membranes.
- Single-channel recording.
- Determining the structure of promising nanopores using Cryo-EM or crystallography.
This project offers a unique opportunity to work on the design and development of novel synthetic nanopore proteins with defined sensing functions, which has potential applications in various fields.
