Eligibility/Qualification
Applicants should have:
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in metal additive manufacturing and/or machine learning for physical systems.
- Candidates with strong expertise in either additive manufacturing or machine learning who have an interest in developing skills in the other area are encouraged to apply.
- Experience with high-temperature materials or advanced materials characterization techniques is advantageous.
- A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to work independently toward research project deliverables.
- Due to sponsor restrictions, applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
Job Description
The selected Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to an industry-partnered research program focused on developing advanced materials and manufacturing approaches for extreme environments.
Key research activities will include:
- Developing and studying advanced, high-temperature material systems using metal additive manufacturing.
- Applying machine learning techniques to process modeling, optimization, and adaptive control.
- Conducting materials characterization and analyzing process–structure–property relationships.
- Integrating experimental and computational approaches to improve additive manufacturing processes.
- Collaborating closely with industry partners on research objectives and project deliverables.
- Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting results at conferences.
- Working independently while contributing to the broader research goals of the IDM Lab.
