Research Area

Medical Physics and Engineering, specifically focusing on low-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (~50 mT) in the Biophysics Research Group / Quantitative MRI research group.

Location

University of Eastern Finland – Kuopio Campus (Pohjois-Savo, Finland).  

Eligibility/Qualification

Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in physics, engineering, medical engineering, or a relevant field. Must not be completed more than five years prior (net time, excluding parental leave, military service, etc.).  
  • Good spoken and written English skills.  
  • Prior experience and knowledge in MRI, pulse sequence development, and low-field MRI.  

Advantages (Considered a Plus):

  • Skills in electronics (RF electronics, MRI/gradient coil design)
  • Programming skills (MATLAB, C/C++, or Python)
  • 3-D printing and other manufacturing methods
  • Experience in MRI image reconstruction (e.g., nonuniform FFT, compressive sensing)
  • Good publication track record
  • Experience supervising students

Job Description

Main responsibilities include:

  • Developing and constructing an open-source, open-hardware low-field MRI device.
  • Implementing and testing software, especially pulse sequences, on the low-field device alongside consortium researchers.
  • Developing and executing applications on low-field MRI.
  • Collaborating with national and international research institutions and companies.
  • Writing scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Acquiring and implementing third-party funded projects.
  • Mentoring and supervising PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor’s students and interns.  
  • Optional teaching activities relevant to your expertise.
