Postdoctoral Researcher – Neuroscience: The Riddle Laboratory at Florida State University, within the Psychology Department, is actively seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join their team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to NIH-funded research focused on the neural oscillatory basis of higher-order cognition and its alteration in psychiatric illnesses. The Riddle Lab’s ultimate goal is to develop innovative interventions for psychiatric disorders through non-invasive brain stimulation techniques.
Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area: Neuroscience and Cognitive Control
Location: Florida State University, Psychology Department
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Education: Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field.
- Experience: Proficiency in signal analysis (EEG or fMRI) and a strong background or intention to use brain stimulation methods (TMS or tACS). Strong programming skills in MATLAB or Python are essential.
Job Description:
Postdoctoral Researcher – Neuroscience and Cognitive Control
The Riddle Lab at Florida State University is dedicated to investigating the neural oscillatory basis of cognitive control, a fundamental aspect of higher-order human cognition. They employ EEG and functional MRI to measure neural network activity, seeking to establish a scientific foundation by causally testing the correlation between neural activity and cognition. The lab designs non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, such as frequency-specific rhythmic TMS and transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), to modulate neural oscillations and connectivity within brain networks.
Currently, the Riddle Lab is researching how changes in brain networks and cognitive control contribute to symptom expression in mood disorders like depression and anxiety. Their dimensional approach focuses on uncovering the neurocognitive basis of specific mental illness symptoms, contributing to personalized medicine and precision intervention.
About the Position: Florida State University hosts a thriving cognitive neuroscience program with a specialized focus on human neuroscience. The Postdoctoral Researcher will have flexibility in shaping their research direction. The starting salary is in accordance with NIH stipend guidelines. The start date is negotiable, with a preference for Spring 2024. Dr. Riddle emphasizes effective mentorship, active research collaboration, and leadership training.
