Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
  • Doctoral degree in a computationally oriented field (computer science, mathematics, statistics, or physical sciences).
  • Expertise in machine learning-based and statistical data analysis.
  • Proficient in scientific programming languages (preferably Python; R, Julia, or Rust acceptable).
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with spacecraft data.
  • Deep knowledge of AI methods and their performance estimation.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux command line and Git repositories.
  • Good quality publications in computational sciences.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will collaborate with Prof. Tapio Pahikkala and Dr. Nina Dresing on the AIPAD project, merging spacecraft data with AI to address longstanding questions about solar energetic particle (SEP) events. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing AI algorithms to infer SEP pitch-angle distributions and predict energy spectra of SEP events.
  • Conducting statistical analyses to identify roles of solar flares and coronal shocks.
  • Supporting open science by producing datasets and advanced AI algorithms for the scientific community.
