Eligibility/Qualification:
- Completed master’s degree or German Diplom in physics OR a doctorate (Ph.D.) in physics
- Interest in developing and conducting high-precision experiments
- Solid knowledge of atomic physics, quantum optics, laser cooling, laser spectroscopy, ultra-high vacuum, trapped ions, or related subjects (preferable)
- Basic programming skills, preferably in Python
- Basic knowledge of electronics
- Practical experience in setting up complex experiments and familiarity with 3D design software
- Highly committed and capable of working independently
- Strong team player with excellent communication skills
- Proficient in English (both spoken and written)
- Physical ability to work in a laboratory and conduct experiments at external sites
Job Description:
Postdoctoral Researcher or Doctoral Candidate in Experimental Physics (Quantum Optics) for Developing a Transportable Optical Clock
- Contribute to the development of a transportable Al+ quantum logic clock with an uncertainty of 10-18
- Develop compact optical setups with automated optimization of operating parameters
- Integrate the development results into the transportable clock
- Automate the clock for continuous operation and perform its characterization
- Conduct measurement campaigns with the clock outside of laboratory environments for geodesy-related height difference measurements
- Present scientific results at international conferences
- Collaborate with the Quantum Logic Spectroscopy research group and contribute to ongoing research projects
