The Cipitria Lab at Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral or PhD researcher to join our team in a groundbreaking project focused on biomaterials and cancer dormancy. The position is part of the European Research Council Consolidator Grant – DORMATRIX, where the candidate will work on engineering breast cancer dormancy using biomaterials and novel in vitro models.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD or MSc in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Materials Science, or similar.
  • Experience in biomedical lab work, especially in hydrogel fabrication and cell culture, is advantageous.
  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiasm for scientific research and innovative thinking.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English (Spanish not required).

Job Description:
In this role, you will be involved in the following tasks:

  • Apply biophysical principles and novel biomaterials to model in vitro breast cancer micro-units.
  • Synthesize hydrogels and develop microparticles with controlled physical and chemical properties.
  • Culture breast cancer cells in 2D and 3D controlled microenvironments.
  • Use advanced microscopy techniques and time-lapse fluorescence life cell imaging to monitor cancer cell dynamics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external project partners, including regular meetings with the Max Planck Queensland Center.
  • Contribute to additional research projects within the lab and broader consortium.
