Postdoctoral Researcher – RADIANT Project: The School of Biological & Chemical Sciences at the University of Galway is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for a 20-month position. This role is part of the EU Horizon 2020 Research Project called RADIANT, focusing on the quantitative assessment of sustainable and resilient food systems. The project is scheduled to begin on 01.01.2024 and end on 31/08.2025.
The successful candidate will join the FUSION modeling research group within the Ryan Institute at the University of Galway.

Job Description:
Postdoctoral Researcher – RADIANT Project, School of Biological & Chemical Sciences, Ryan Institute, University of Galway
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) of agri-food value chains within an international multidisciplinary team working on Work Package (WP) 4 of the RADIANT project. The project aims to promote crop diversification, environmental and agrobiodiversity preservation, and fair economic development through the valorization of Underutilized Crops. The successful candidate will combine LCA metrics with economic and ecosystem services metrics to benchmark underutilized crops and associated value chains against industrialized crops and value chains.
Duties:
- Conducting life cycle assessment (LCA) of cropping systems and value chains.
- Integrating LCA with ecosystem services and economic metrics.
- Participating in project workshops and meetings.
- Writing reports and scientific articles.
- Any other duties assigned commensurate with this level of post.
Qualifications:
Essential Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant science, engineering, or economics discipline.
- Proven experience applying LCA, economic, or other quantitative assessment methods.
- Excellent knowledge of cropping systems.
- Demonstrated ability to publish scientific papers.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience with ecosystem services assessment.
- Knowledge of resilience assessment.
- Knowledge of underutilized crops.
- Project management experience.
Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €42,032 – €54,153 per annum, subject to the project’s funding limitations, and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
Start Date: Available from 01.01.2024
