Postdoctoral Researcher: Remote Sensing: We invite applications for a Postdoctoral researcher position (80-100%) in the field of remote sensing of water balance and dynamics. The successful applicant will contribute to the SNSF-Sinergia project “DeltAs,” evaluating delta-wide changes in geogenic arsenic contamination in Vietnam. The project is a collaborative effort involving Swiss scientists at ETH-Zurich, Eawag, University of Neuchatel, and the University of Zurich (UZH), along with partners in Vietnam and the United States.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in remote sensing, physics, environmental science, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in working with SAR (interferometry) and diverse satellite data products
  • Proficiency in programming and advanced data science methods (e.g., machine learning, cloud-based computing)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
  • Strong interest in working in a team-oriented environment

Job Description:

Postdoctoral Researcher: Remote Sensing of Water Balance and Dynamics

  • Develop workflows to assess water balance and surface/groundwater dynamics in the Mekong and Red River delta using satellite remote sensing data
  • Collect diverse satellite data and in situ measurements from local partners or during field campaigns
  • Collaborate with project partners to connect remote sensing results with geo-hydrological modeling and scenario calculations
  • Document and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences
  • Gain experience in teaching and supervision of BSc, MSc, and PhD candidates

Start of Employment: The position is fully funded for three years, with an ideal start date of February 1st, 2024. Working 80% is possible. Salaries correspond to SNSF regulations for Postdoctoral researchers.
