Postdoctoral Researcher Scholarship: Amsterdam UMC invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of modeling (mis)information and infectious disease spread. The successful candidate will contribute to the TRENDING project, which aims to study the interplay between information exposure and infectious disease transmission, thereby contributing to pandemic preparedness.

Location: Infectious Diseases Department of the Public Health Service of Amsterdam (GGD Amsterdam), Amsterdam UMC

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A recently completed PhD in computational modeling, preferably in the field of population biology or infectious disease epidemiology.
  • Strong interest in infectious diseases, behavioral science, or multidisciplinary research.
  • Experience in statistics and handling large datasets.
  • Advanced programming skills, preferably in R.
  • Good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.

Job Description:
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, the successful candidate will be involved in designing and developing a mathematical model that describes the transmission of a respiratory infection and its interplay with (mis)information. Main responsibilities include developing a compartment model, calibrating it to real-life data, analyzing the impact of various infodemic management interventions, and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The role also involves collaborating in a multidisciplinary team consisting of modelers, epidemiologists, infodemic specialists, behavioral scientists, and computational social scientists.
