Postdoctoral Researcher / Senior Researcher: Associate Professor, Dr. Pieta Mattila, is seeking a postdoctoral-level researcher to join her research group at the University of Turku. The position, initially for two years with the possibility of extension, focuses on B lymphocyte activation and contributes to an EU-funded project called Yellow4FLAVI. The project aims to deconstruct the protective immunity of the yellow fever virus 17D to inform flavivirus vaccine design. The preferred starting date is 1.3.2024 or as agreed.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., cell biology, biomedicine, virology, immunology, molecular biology).
  • High level of motivation, capacity to take initiative, and independent approach to research.
  • Excellent skills in cell and tissue cultures, with experience in cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Good communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.

Job Description:

The selected candidate will work on the Yellow4FLAVI project, investigating yellow fever viral vaccine antigen processing and presentation in B cells. The work involves utilizing and developing microscopic and biochemical tools to study viral antigen processing and presentation in B cells in collaboration with consortium partners in France and Germany.

Salary and Trial Period:

The salary is determined in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a Postdoctoral Researcher, the initial salary is around €3400-€3700/month, depending on previous experience and skills. The position has a trial period of six months.
