Postdoctoral Researcher – Virus-Biofilm Interactions: Join the River Ecosystems Laboratory as a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the fascinating interactions between phages and bacteria in stream biofilms. Location: EPFL’s Alpine and Polar Environmental Research Centre (ALPOLE) in Sion, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Microbiology, Virology, Microbial Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • Knowledge in Viral Ecology, Microbial Ecology, Microfluidics, Microscopy, Image Analysis, and Microbiology-relevant laboratory skills.
  • High motivation, independence, and dedication to the project.
  • Quantitative skills, excellent oral communication (English), and writing skills.

Job Description: As a Postdoctoral Researcher, your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  1. Conducting laboratory-based micro- and mesocosm experiments to explore phage-bacteria interactions in stream biofilms.
  2. Utilizing various imaging techniques to understand how phage activity influences biofilm structure and function.
  3. Investigating how biofilm structure may be modulated in response to phage infections.
  4. Working with natural communities in mesocosms and single phage-bacteria pairs using microfluidic techniques.
  5. Contributing to the advancement of knowledge in viral ecology, microbial ecology, and environmental sciences.
