Postdoctoral Researcher – Water Electrolysis: ICFO is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the development of advanced technologies driving the clean energy transition. The selected candidate will work on efficient water electrolyzer systems operating with non-ideal water streams within an EU-funded project.

Eligibility/Qualification:
Candidates must hold an internationally recognized Ph.D. (or evidence of its completion in the near future) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields. Research experience in water electrolysis and related fields is required.

Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following domains:

  • Strong background in electrochemistry and chemical engineering
  • Experience in water electrolysis systems, particularly alkaline and anion exchange membrane (AEM) technologies
  • Experience with alternative anodic reactions beyond the Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER)
  • Full stack design, implementation, and operation
  • Electrode design, fabrication, and membrane integration
  • Experience with spectroscopy and optics
  • Multiscale modeling using COMSOL or similar software
  • Analytical chemistry for product quantification

Job Description:
The selected candidate will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of anodic catalysts and electrodes for clean hydrogen generation from non-ideal water streams
  • Investigate oxygen evolution and parallel purification reactions
  • Scale up the system in area, number of cells, and power
  • Collaborate in a multidisciplinary EU-funded project combining chemical engineering, electrochemistry, and material sciences
  • Utilize ICFO’s state-of-the-art fabrication and characterization facilities
