Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience in genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, or structural biology.
  • Strong publication record demonstrating expertise in the relevant research areas.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Job Description: The successful candidates will engage in cutting-edge research projects focused on:

  • Identifying and characterizing new replication stress response proteins.
  • Conducting mechanistic studies of replication-coupled DNA repair and damage tolerance.
  • Analyzing DNA damage signaling pathways, particularly those controlled by the ATR kinase.
  • Characterizing abasic site repair and tolerance mechanisms.
  • Developing cancer therapeutic approaches targeting the DNA damage response.

The Cortez Lab employs a multi-disciplinary approach, leveraging genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, and structural biology techniques. The lab is part of the Genome Maintenance Program within the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Vanderbilt Institute of Chemical Biology, and Department of Biochemistry.
